Living history

The Ford Thunderbird is a redesign of the original Thunderbird, in production from 1955 to 1966.

The Volkswagen Beetle is based on the original VW Bug, in production in Europe from 1938 to 1978.

The BMW Mini is a rework of the original Morris Mini, sold from 1959 to 2000.

Is there any car currently in production you could see being brought back to life as these were?  Anything that distinctive and original?  Or are we doomed to redesigns of the Ford Escort?
