Sunflower

I’m done tinkering with WordPress themes, at least for a few days, and I’ve finished my first theme. It’s got a sunflower header image from stock.xchg, a background from Squid Fingers, and a whole lot of CSS. Adding a screenshot image makes life easier when picking a theme to use. If it looks odd in your browser, please drop me a comment and tell me which browser you’re using. I tested it with Firefox and Safari on the Mac, and IE6 on WinXP.

If you’re thinking of designing a theme, it helps not to start from scratch. I used the blank theme from Miklb, which is the WP1.5 default theme stripped of all the style information. The files I modified were:

  • archive.php
  • comments.php
  • header.php
  • index.php
  • search.php
  • searchform.php
  • sidebar.php
  • single.php
  • style.css

The theme required a lot of small changes, scattered all over the place. Hubby was a huge help in getting it to work and taming the categories drop down. I’m not entering it in the WordPress 2.0 themes contest because I wanted a unique theme for myself, but I love seeing what people can do.
