The longest scarf

BBC News: Germans unravel giant Cup scarf.

The town of Unna in western Germany is hoping for an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for what it claims is the world's longest football scarf.  The 12.5-kilometre (eight-mile) woollen scarf was knitted by more than 1,000 people, including many elderly women.  Part of it has been draped around the town centre in time for the football World Cup, which kicks off on Friday.

Imagine weaving in all those yarn ends...
