Knit up the ravelled sleeve of care
Cabled waist shaping on Eris is mostly done and I'm on the fourth skein of yarn. I'm going to adjust the decreases on the sleeves because I have teeny wrists and hate floppy sleeve cuffs. Might lengthen the body a bit too because my row gauge is off. I needed ten extra rows to get to the start of the waist shaping. I keep a notebook (the one Stephanie Pearl-McPhee signed when she was in town) to record the tweaks and mods I make to patterns so I can duplicate what I did. Or document the frustration when something just doesn't work.
Picked up some Crystal Palace Panda Soy yarn from Carodan Farm, 49% bamboo, 33% soy, 18% elastic nylon. I liked their Panda Cotton yarn better than Maizy. Hopefully Panda Soy is as good as the cotton version but I'm expecting the same splitting issues as the other two yarns. It feels very soft and doesn't have the warmth wool has. When you touch it, it feels cool.
Started a pair of socks in Oceanwind Knits merino sock yarn, it's lovely to work with. The Poppy colour actually qualifies as light red (not pink), similar to dusty red poppies by the side of the road. I've included panels from Sockbug's River Rapids sock (PDF link), planning to offset the pattern by a half repeat for the second sock and see if anyone notices. My colour taste has wandered away from green of late, I'm looking at reds and blues and browns. Orange is always a winner colourwise.
The title of this post is a quote from Macbeth (Act II scene 2):
Methought I heard a voice cry, Sleep no more!
Macbeth does murder sleep, - the innocent sleep;
Sleep, that knits up the ravell'd sleeve of care,
The death of each day's life, sore labor's bath,
Balm of hurt minds, great nature's second course,
Chief nourisher in life's feast.
My "sleeve of care" is quite unravelled of late.
