T minus three
I have a plot! And a cast of characters! I finally feel like I might be ready for NaNoWriMo 2008. There is a nice circular "finish where you started" thread going through the story, and my minor characters have definite things to do that advance the plot. It's a time travel story that doesn't violate what I believe about time travel. I have science fiction, velociraptors, and witch trials. This is going to be fun! I even found my copy of No Plot, No Problem by Chris Baty.
A huge part of my plotting process is talking it over with Hubby and him giving me all the good ideas, and some less good ones that get rejected. We talk it over, he finds the plot holes, gives me another deluge of ideas, and the story gets written. I don't know how I'd do NaNo without him! I think I was born without the chick flick gene, I like movies with explosions and sharks and aliens and action. Maybe that's why my one attempt at writing chick lit for NaNoWriMo 2005 was such a dismal failure. I made the 50,000 words, but it was such a depressing story to read and to write, people who read it asked if I was feeling OK when they finished. In that concerned "you know I'm here for you" tone of voice...
