Valentine's Day random
Every year we've been in St Louis, we've gone to the same restaurant on Valentine's day: India Palace. They give you a carnation at the door, the food is heavenly, and you're on the top floor of a tower building, so you can see for miles. Vegetable samosa, lamb korma, rice pudding, and a glass of lassi, mmm!
This week I've got spam emails from the oddest-named "people" like Thrill K. Chardonnay (why is she trying to sell me software? Isn't she on the wrong spam?) and Stoppard O. Impede (sounds like a cheap private detective). If you were ever stuck for character names for a story, just cruise the junk email folder!
This rhyme has been running through my mind all day, and it bugged me I didn't remember the full French words. I know the "school dinners" version, but here's the original:
Frère Jacques, Frère Jacques,
Dormez vous, dormez vous?
Sonnez les matines, sonnez les matines,
Ding dang dong, ding dang dong.
Which translates as:
Are you sleeping? Are you sleeping?
Brother John, Brother John,
Morning bells are ringing, morning bells are ringing,
Ding dang dong, ding dang dong.
The Wallace and Gromit film Curse of the Were-Rabbit is now out on DVD. Run, do not walk, especially if you missed it in the movie theatre. I have a pattern from 1996 for a Gromit sweater, and a Gromit toy, looks like they stopped making them.
