Why?

I like America, I really do, but this country does one thing that drives me batty and I cannot figure it out.

Why do you coat the rutabaga (Swede) in wax?

Why?  Why?  Why?!

Of all the vegetables, only this one is subject to such indignity, and it makes them harder to peel.  Please stop it!
